History

The Octopus was introduced by Eyerly Aircraft in 1937 and remains one of the most-recognized ride models on the portable carnival circuit. Its mechanical layout — refined over decades — makes it both a reliable workhorse and a maintenance challenge for operators without specialized service partners.

Mousekeyy has serviced dozens of Octopus units across the United States. Our crew holds the schematics, the parts inventory, and — for Eyerly Aircraft (now defunct) — the institutional knowledge to keep these rides spinning for another generation.

Common problems

The most-frequent service calls we receive on the Octopus:

  • Hydraulic cylinder seal degradation after 4–6 seasons
  • PLC fault codes on cold-weather startup
  • Bearing wear on primary rotation hub
  • Electrical slip-ring carbon buildup

Refurbishment notes

A typical Octopus refurbishment runs 8–12 weeks in our Tampa shop. Scope-of-work usually includes complete teardown, NDT testing on all primary load-bearing welds, hydraulic system rebuild, PLC firmware review, full repaint, LED light retrofit, and re-certification documentation suitable for state filing in CA, FL, TX, PA, NJ, NY, and OH.
